Brian Barnes recently entered a photograph of a supercell that occurred in Nebraska on June 16, 2011 into Week 14 of National Geographic’s “Travelers Photo Contest.” The photo was one of 20 picked as an “Editor’s Favorite” for Week 14.

As most know by now, I do a lot of volunteer work in the ocean activism community when I’m not storm chasing in Tornado Alley. I was in Otsuchi Japan (Iwate Prefecture) on March 11th, 2011 monitoring the slaughter of Dall’s porpoises for Ric O’Barry’s Save Japan Dolphins and standing just a few feet from the water on a man made pier in the middle of Otsuchi harbor when the M9.0 earthquake hit.
We received several request for this print to be made into a poster – so here it is. No text – just a large 20 x 30 in print of this incredible tornado event!
I’ve read a lot of papers, blogs and books about tornado events and I’m giving this book an “A+,” it is simply the best piece of literally work I’ve read in regard to this specific tornado event and one of the best that I’ve read about any tornado event.

I uploaded some video of the Campo Colorado tornado event to our YouTube channel yesterday, enjoy. I do apologize for the language, but people do tend to get excited in the back of the storm chasing tour van. This was shot by a customer (Scott M) which I’m thankful for because since I’m in the front, and in this case driving, I missed a lot of it myself – so it’s great to be able to see the tornado from our customer’s perspective.

The preliminary data for Saturday’s tornado that hit Yazoo City, Mississippi is now available. No doubt this thing was a monster.
A major weather system entered the plains today which resulted in a widespread tornado outbreak throughout the Texas Panhandle, western Kansas and Colorado.
Gov. Jim Doyle has proclaimed April 19-23, 2010 as Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin.
The world has gone mad! There are tornadoes in California, earthquakes in the Caribbean, 2012 is just around the corner and Al Gore is still breathing…actually, were all still breathing — so lets just take a deep breath and calm down.
The first tornado of the decade has been issued. To our knowledge at the current time, an actual tornado hasn’t been confirmed – but the warning went out. So what is the lucky area that received it? Texas…Oklahoma?
