A slow moving system centered over Texas appears to not be in a hurry to go anywhere fast. The lingering system is bringing periods of heavy rain and flooding to much of the southern states from Texas to Florida and even into the central plains. The National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma has issued Flood Watches for most of central Oklahoma as periods of heavy rain are dumping up to an inch per hour in some areas.

Oklahoma Radar
This is deep tropical moisture that is being streamed up from the Gulf of Mexico very quickly and literally “dumped” onto land. These bands of storms aren’t dangerous in terms of wind, hail or tornadoes – but they can be deadly if you are caught in flood waters.
As a word of caution – Do NOT drive into flood waters. Flooding is the number one cause of extreme weather deaths in the United States (and the world). No matter what you’re driving, or no matter how well you might know a certain area or its roads and rivers (or creeks) – the general rule of thumb is – Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
