The National Hurricane Center has had some fun with Invest99l, which became Tropical Depression Two, which was then downgraded to an Invest after a few days, and then upgraded back to Tropical Depression Two and then just this morning upgraded to the first named storm in the Atlantic Basin for the 2009 Hurricane Season – Tropical Storm Ana.
It currently appears that Ana will be fighting to keep her tropical storm status during most of her life thanks to several inhibiting contributors between wind shear and water temps, but there is always a chance she could be upgraded to a small hurricane.
The current official track takes Ana into the southern tip of Florida near Key Largo in 5-days, here is a track map:
We will of course monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Ana and if she is upgraded to a hurricane prior to landfall, we’ll likely setup a hurricane interception deployment. We are not however planning on accepting any tour customers for this deployment (if it should happen at all) because as it looks, Ana will not meet our criteria of a “full-scale” deployment. Nonetheless, once we’re closer to the event – you can monitor our deployment status from our Hurricane Updates Blog.
