Greensburg is for sale! Not the town that was almost completely destroyed when an EF-5 tornado hit it on May 4th, 2007, but Greensburg the race horse. And half of the money that Greensburg brings at auction will be given to the town of the same name to help them with their continued recovery efforts.

Chad and Tammy Hassenpflug of Southwind Farm in Vinton, Louisiana are putting the 2-year-old bay gelding up for auction on March 22nd. Tammy said she would like to see the money that Greensburg (the horse) brings at auction be applied to the Greensburg High

School’s athletic department, but the money will be given without restriction so the town can best apply it where they believe it would be best used.

The couple was inspired to name the horse after the tornado devastated town in southeast Kansas after seeing the television series “Greensburg GreenTown” on Discovery’s Planet Green. But, it does seem to also be a fitting name for a horse sired by “Storm Passage” and whose dam is “Steppin’ Up”.

So, if you’re in the market for a race horse – you might take a good look at Greensburg! For more information visit http://www.racingstable.com/southwindfarm/
